The truth about beverage packages on a cruise
Published on
The drink package almost never comes alone.
Nowadays, you no longer buy just a beverage package. You buy a package with many inclusions.
Wi-Fi, discounts on excursions, access to certain specialty restaurants... And that's where the cards start to get shuffled.
Because as long as everything is bundled into a single price, you can't tell what you would have spent otherwise, being reasonable, without going overboard, and without feeling obliged to get your money's worth from every drink.
- Do we consume more because it's included? Probably.
- Would we have really used the Wi-Fi every day? Maybe not.
- Would we have gone to that specialty restaurant if we had paid for it à la carte? Good question.
The Choice!
So what should I do, should I buy a beverage package or not?
Annie-France and I see this a lot: travelers convinced they’ve struck a good deal... and others who realized afterwards that they could have saved by paying as you go.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Each cruise line has different packages. Some seem more advantageous than others for a very specific traveler profile. Others aren’t worth it because our actual habits do not justify the expense at all! But peace of mind on vacation is important for most of us, and avoiding having to calculate every purchase makes the much sought after unplugging easier during travel.
This decision can even vary from one cruise to another! And this is exactly the kind of small detail we review with you before you book, so you can choose the option that will let you experience a Dream Cruise.
